The “Doepke” XK 120 die-cast model – huge at 17 inches long!

Estimate Price: (e£350-400)

A “must-have” in any worthwhile collection of Jaguar models. This one is in played-with condition but is solid, the steering works and there is minimal rust, unlike some. Complete, apart from the plastic gearstick, which small fingers always manage to break! Rare. VG.

“Jaguar Type XK” – the large maroon XK120/100 brochure.

Estimate Price: (e£100-150)

14 x 10. Four pages plus cover. Suburb air-brush illustrations and S E Porter’s cut-away of the XK engine. Celebrates “Soapy” Sutton’s 132.6 mph run over the flying mile along the Jabbeke straight on 30 May 1949. This is an early edition that still lists the XK100 that did not go into production. There is a small Addendum slip on the Specs page announcing the arrival of a heater (see Lot 25 above). Full page of praises from the world’s press. This is an exceptionally high-quality copy of this brochure. Its size and the thin glossy paper make it particularly vulnerable to edginess, creasing and tears – this copy has none. Just one sl rub lower left corner o/w Fine, nr Mint and very rare in this condition.

I/309

“Jaguar Type XK” – the large maroon XK120/100 brochure.

Estimate Price: (e£50-75 the pair)

Superb air-brush illustrations and S E Porter’s cut-away of the XK engine. Plus 4-page “Advance Particulars” folder. Also included is a modern reprint for comparison – important for collectors. VG.

I/314

An eye-catching 12-page concertina folder from Jaguar’s German operation, celebrating Jaguar’s 60th Anniversary.

I/315

“The XK 150 Jaguar Roadster”.

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

The large 4-page folder w blue-grey cover in metallic ink. 13.5 x 9.5. Pub ref 100m/3/58. Printer AB & S Ltd. Three XK 150 models are described in the Specs on the back page – Standard, Special Equipment and “S” Type. This is the only brochure Jaguar issued with a mention of the XK150S. Also includes “Partners in Power”, the Dunlop booklet on disc brakes, which features the XK150 throughout. Curiously, there is an erratum slip inside the brochure pointing out that only manual transmission with overdrive is available on the “S” type models, even though this is crystal clear in the specs on the back page! Also and unusually, the Jaguar details for Coventry have been over-printed by details of Jaguar Cars Inc, in New York. The metallic ink on the covers of this large brochure rubs and creases very easily and has done so here, but not excessively o/w VG.

I/316

XK120 Driver’s Handbook for the ots and FHC models.

Estimate Price: (e£50-75)

60 pages. Pub ref RP 5, the final printing. Undated. Black card covers with yellow label. Fresh and clean. VG nr Fine.

I/317

“Jaguar XK in Australia” by Australian Jaguar gurus – John Elmgreen and Terry McGrath.

Estimate Price: (e£150-200)

“Jaguar XK in Australia” by Australian Jaguar gurus – John Elmgreen and Terry McGrath. This now scarce reference book always attracts interest when a copy comes on the market. A particular feature is the unique selection of photos, many of which had not previously been seen.

I/318

“The Jaguar XK 120 in the Southern Hemisphere” by John Elmgreen and Terry McGrath.

Estimate Price: (e£75-100)

Another example of years of meticulous scholarship by the two authors. This book is a fundamental update of their “Jaguar XK in Australia” (immediately above), published in 1985, and is also expanded to cover all of Africa, plus South America, Asia, and the Middle East. I have copies of both books and they complement each other beautifully. Mint and unread.

J/323

A genuine first edition of the E-type launch brochure – with eight-pages and the printer’s details on the last page.

Estimate Price: (e£150-200)

It also has an additional feature – many of these brochures were sent to dealers with a thin paper cover-sheet bound in to protect the front cover. The cover-sheets were nearly always removed, leaving the high-gloss cover vulnerable to rubs, scratches and other marking. Most unusually, this copy still has its cover sheet present. It has eased from the binding for most of its length and there is a tear at lower left. However, it has been retained in position by the perforations and as a result, the front cover is fresh with only minor markings. VG nr Fine. Rare with cover sheet.

J/324

J/327

An original E-type keyring from the late 1960s.

Estimate Price: (e£200-250)

The back shows “Made in England” on a smooth surface. On page 186 of his book “Vintage Jaguar Keyrings 1955-1980” (see Lot 201). Bud Marston says that these were produced in Birmingham in the early 1970s for cars bound for the American market. I rarely disagree with Bud as his book truly is the bible. However, my first Series 2 E-type, which I bought in 1972, came with one of these and as I was deep into Jaguar automobilia collecting in those days, I asked the seller and he confirmed he had bought it not long after he took delivery of the car in 1969. Therefore, if you own a Series 2 or Series 3 E-type, this is the right one for you! Seldom seen. Fine.

J/328

An intriguing pair of Motor Show catalogues for the E-type enthusiast!

Estimate Price: (e£50-75)

The mad dash to get the cars ready for the Geneva launch in March 1961, including Norman Dewis’ hectic drive through the night, is now part of Jaguar folklore. These two catalogues give another angle. Page 109 of the 1960 catalogue gives a short half-page spec for a “2-seater Sports Car” on the Jaguar stand. Page 203 of the 1961 volume gives much longer page-and-a-half spec for the “Jaguar ‘E’ Type G.T. (Grand Touring) Model”. From the specs, it is evident that these are one and the same car. Clearly, Jaguar were planning to launch the E-type at Earls Court in October 1960 and their plans were sufficiently well-advanced for this entry to have appeared in the Show catalogue – five months before the actual launch in Geneva in March 1961. Wonder what caused the delay? Fascinating! Good and VG.

J/329

An original fully-annotated cut-away drawing showing oil circulation of the Jaguar V-12 engine, as fitted to the Series 3 E Type.

Estimate Price: (e£50-75)

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

As it says on the cover, this manual relates only to cars with the 3.8 litre engine. Binder dusty and with sl rust on the lever-arch mechanism. Internals are fresh and clean and have not seen much use. Binder – Good. Text – VG.

J/343

“Supplementary Information for the 4.2 Litre “E” Type Models”.

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

A self-contained slab of papers nearly one inch thick that, in the words of the title page – “Covers the principal variations between the 4.2 and 3.8 litre variations of the E-type.” No workshop manual was issued for the 4.2 cars, so this is a pretty fundamental document for an owner. VG.

This is the XJ-S launch press pack. Five sections – Introduction, XJ-S in detail. Design & Development. Sales & Marketing and Photographs. Eight press releases, all embargoed to 10 September 1975, as is the pack itself. Unusaully, all the mono photos are present. A rare pack, containing a uniquely comprehensive account of the XJ-S. I seldom see more than one a year, if that. Fine.
