“And now for Something Completely Different!” – as Monty Python would say.

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

These are all Jaguar badges, but not as we know them. The large lettering on the two left-hand badges is the word “Jaguar” in the Russian Cyrillic script. The abbreviation at the foot of the lower badge is the four Cyrillic letters for SORM. I’m informed that this can be loosely translated as “System for Operative Investigative Activities“. This Orwellian title is the Russian equivalent of GCHQ. No sure what “Jaguar” means in this context – a branch within the organisation? A piece of equipment manned by these people? I’ve also drawn a blank on the top left badge I’m informed that the top right badge is a Polish police badge and that wording at the foot means “Intelligence Department” – presumably their equivalent of the UK police Special Branch. The Jaguar image leaping from right to left seems to be a direct copy of ours! Finally, the Jaguar connection for the lower right badge is not at all obvious. However, the huge airport fire tender in the middle of the badge is a Jaguar K-15 built by the specialist vehicle development company Colet Special Vehicle Design of California who specialise in airport tenders. The badge is worn by Atlanta Fire Department crews proudly operating their Jaguar at Hartsfield International Airport at Atlanta, Georgia “Home of the Jaguar”. I promised you variety in this auction and I hope this Lot ticks that box! Fine.
