A 4-page folder and a single sheet flier with the same title tucked inside. Next – “Jaguar V12: The Ultimate Cat’. Pub ref – E-12-2 250M-3/71, this was the Series 3 launch year but this 8-page folder is not worded as a launch folder. “Jaguar V12: The Ultimate Cat”. Same title, but an 8-page brochure. N/404

‘Jaguar E Type’ by Denis Jenkinson.

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

Osprey Autohistory. 1982. 134 pp. 7.5 x 9. Jenks’ book is noticeably different from the other potboilers in this publisher’s “set”. He was an E Type driver himself and a substantial chunk of the book describes his own experiences travelling Europe, covering the motor racing circuit. He owned two E Types, the first being a red fhc FPL 660C and the second being a white ots BJD 147H. Both cars feature heavily in the book. The photos are a special delight, including one of a tumescent E-type across pages 26/27 and one of a roadside servicing-stop in Italy on page 47. When I sold my own collection of Jaguar automobilia many moons ago, I kept 10 items that had special memories. One is my copy of this book signed by Denis. I asked him to dedicate it to me and his response was to the point “But I don’t know you”. This response was typical of his writing, with its crisp, clear separation of fact and opinion. The writing in the book is of course, of the highest quality – as befits the pen of one of the iconic motor racing writers of the post-war years. Fine.

N/405

“Jaguar 3.8 E-Type Grand Touring Models. Service Manual”.

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

Binder dusty and with sl rust on the lever-arch mechanism. Internals are fresh and clean and have not seen much use. Binder – Good. Text – VG.

N/406

Estimate Price: (e£40-50)

A self-contained slab of papers that “Covers the principal variations between the 4.2 and 3.8 litre variations of the E-type.”. Insertion at the back of manual E/123/1 or /1 is advised. Note that it will not fit easily into the back of E/123/8 immediately above as that has a 4-ring binder, whereas this Supplement is punched for a 2-ring binder and the holes are spaced differently. An important document if your Series 1 has a 4.2 litre engine. VG.

XJ220 and XJ220C

P/435

Stuart Spencer was the manager of Jaguar’s Design Studio before he went freelance.

Estimate Price: (e£400-500)

Over the years, he has produced some fine examples of that specialised branch of motoring art – the cut-away drawing. In my view. this original cutaway of the production version of the XJ220 is one of his best. He had the free run of Bloxham for all his preliminary work, as well as some CAD/CAM drawings. It was that privileged access which ensured the very high degree of accuracy that is one of Stuart’s hallmarks. 40 x 29 overall. Mounted, framed and glazed. Fine. Unique.
